This week we’re spotlighting jewels that emphasize your natural skin tone. Cleanse your palette with our collection of clear jewelry here.
Award show season kicked off on Sunday night at the Golden Globes, and starlets brought their A-game in the jewelry department, most notably with dramatic statement earrings.
Here are my top ten favorite jewels from the evening:
1) Jessica Alba’s Harry Winston Diamond Necklace (worth $5.8 million!)
2) Allison Williams’ Lorraine Schwartz Coral Drop and Diamond Earrings
3) Naomi Watts’ Lorraine Schwartz Lavender Jade, Ruby, and Diamond Earrings
4) Debra Messing’s Samira 13 Quartz and Diamond Earrings and Amrapali Diamond Bracelets
5) Emily Blunt’s Lorraine Schwartz Ruby, Pink Sapphire, and Diamond Earrings
6) Rachel Weisz’s Bulgari Diamond Snake Bracelet
7) Anna Gunn’s Irene Neuwirth Pink Coral and Mexican Fire Opal Earrings
8) Megan Fox’s Lorraine Schwartz Ruby, Coral, and Diamond Earrings
9) Jennifer Lopez’s Le Vian Floral & Snake Diamond Rings
Fortunately for us, 2012 was an excellent year for jewelry. The fashion world embraced statement costume pieces more than ever and it seemed that everyone with style (including the one and only FLOTUS) found ways to incorporate them into looks for both day and night. A big year for diamonds too, celebrities’ engagement rings grew to exponential proportions and the UK celebrated a radiant anniversary. Continuing in our tradition, here are Charm & Chain’s top 10 favorite jewelry moments from the year:
1) Rachel Zoe Debuts Jewelry Line… And We Pick it Up!
Hollywood’s top stylist and one of my personal fashion icons Rachel Zoe is known for her obsession with vintage statement jewelry. This year, Zoe finally did the inevitable and added a costume jewelry line to her eponymous label, which you can now buy right here on C&C. Her current collection draws inspiration from vintage art deco style pieces and features pavé rhinestone and black enamel detailing. We were thrilled to add her to our roster of designers in 2012!
2) Gossip Girl Comes to a Close
Last month, after five years and six scandalous seasons, Gossip Girl bid farewell to prime time television. Each week, we tuned in to the CW to scope the casts’ bold fashion statements and amazing accessories. In almost every scene in the series, the characters showcased some of the best costume jewelry out there, much of which were by our own designers like Bounkit, Alexis Bittar, Kara Ross, Dannijo, and Fallon, to name a few. We are forever grateful to Blair, Serena, Jenny, Vanessa and the rest for bringing fashion jewelry to the forefront and inspiring viewers to work it into their own wardrobes.
3) 2012’s Most Outrageous Engagement Rings
It seems that the size of celebrities’ engagement rings grow exponentially each year and 2012 proved to be no different. Blake Lively, Jennifer Aniston, and Angelina Jolie (listed in order of images above) all received ginormous rocks from their fiancés. Blake and Jen’s are both estimated to feature a 10-carat center diamond! Now that’s worth a mention.
4) Dannijo Explodes
One of our favorite C&C designers and good friends DANNIJO (comprised of power sisters Jodie and Danielle Snyder) saw much success this year with efforts to expand their brand beyond their seasonal collection of boho glam statement pieces. The team paired up with the Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine for a second MR DANNIJO collaboration collection, shoe designer Matt Bernson for a collection of playful yet versatile footwear boasting glitter and neon detailing, and New York’s spinning mecca Soul Cycle for a steamy workout video featuring a model peddling away on a stationary bike in piles of Dannijo jewels (watch above). Not to mention adding a bridal line and continually landing placements in magazines around the world. You go girls!
5) The Met’s Costume Institute Gala
While the jewelry at the Oscars, Golden Globes and Grammy’s never fail to impress, it was the baubles at this year’s Costume Institute Gala that blew us away. As fashion’s most anticipated red carpet of the year, attendees go all out dressing in the year’s best couture with decadent jewels to match. Some of our favorites included Jaime King’s backwards Bulgari serpent necklace, Kate Bosworth’s diamond clip-on Repossi earrings, and the two stunners above.
6) Michelle Obama Wears Suzanna Dai
We were so excited to see Michelle Obama sporting Suzanna Dai’s Weimar Large Drop Earrings to the Veteran’s Dinner last February. It is one of the greatest honors for a designer, not to mention an up-and-comer like the line’s Suzie Gallehugh, to be worn by the First Lady, and we feel honored to feature the exact earrings here on Charm & Chain. This was definitely one of our greatest highlights of 2012!
7) Statement Necklaces Ruled
I think we can officially declare 2012 the year of the statement necklace. Everyone from high end designers to mass market retailers produced some knock-out neckpieces, our favorites being those by designers like Ranjana Khan, Shourouk, and Assad Mounser. What have traditionally been reserved for glamorous occasions are now everyday staples, perfect when paired with a silk blouse for work or a t-shirt on the weekend. Be sure to check out our collection of statement necklaces to get the look!
8) Lulu Frost’s Power Collection and Video
We were blown away by Lulu Frost’s outrageously awesome Fall 2012 Power Collection and the video filmed to showcase it. We blogged about it back in September and are still reeling over the range of global and antique inspiration within the collection and the intensely piled on, tribal-inspired styling. You can still shop the collection here!
9) The Queen of England’s Diamond Jubilee
The United Kingdom honored Queen Elizabeth’s 60th year on the throne, marking her Diamond Anniversary. Okay, this one doesn’t really have to do anything with jewelry per se, but the Queen Mum does possess one of the greatest jewelry collections in the world. And 60 years ruling one of the world’s most powerful nations? That is something to celebrate.
10) Fashion Week Street Style Continued to Embrace Costume Jewelry
After poring through countless street style snaps taken outside this year’s fashion shows, it seemed as if every big name buyer, editor, model and socialite worked some statement piece into each ensemble they donned for the occasion. I’ve already professed to you my admiration of Buro 24/7’s Miroslava Duma’s jewelry collection, and she’s just one of many stylish ladies whose baubles I continue to swoon over. Check out our favorite pieces from outside last year’s spring shows here and fall shows here and here. P.S. The Dannijo hand pieces in the third picture, as worn by the Man Repeller, will be available soon right here on C&C!

Star light, start bright, first star I see tonight….
This necklace is truly a bright star in Roarke’s collection of big, bold and beaded necklaces. Reminiscent of van Gogh’s famous Starry Night painting, Roarke’s waves of beaded blues mirror the artist’s cloudy night sky.

Katie Holmes looking gorgeous in her first ad as the face of Bobbi Brown cosmetics. But how are we expected to pay attention to her face when she’s wearing that outrageously cool Tom Binns pearl & chain statement necklace?

Today, we’re thrilled to welcome designer Miriam Salat into the Charm & Chain family. Salat designs for the free-spirited jetsetter, and her collection reflects that. Inspired by her treks around the world, cultural experiences, and the great outdoors, her stunning designs have a Art Deco feel with a whimsical bohemian edge.
My favorite piece? These earrings. They have distinct vintage look to them, they’re lightweight, and they’re a lovely shade of ivory that goes with all of the winter white in my closet!

You heard it here first: emerald green is the color of the year! Pantone, global authority on color and provider of color standards to designers around the world, has announced that emerald, the shade of green associated with the precious gemstone, is the official color of 2013. Pantone gives many reasons for why emerald takes the cake this year, including the color’s association with regeneration, healing and unity in many cultures and religions. For more on emerald’s excellence, check out Pantone’s announcement here and shop our collection of emerald-colored jewels here.
