Best Golden Globes Jewelry 2012

The Golden Globes is always my favorite awards show because all the best actors from the big and small screen are in one place, which means that there’s a higher probability for daring fashion choices (everyone wants to impress each other, right?). This year it was a very big year for intricate statement earrings, stacked diamond bangles, and pretty studs (with a few glittery headpieces thrown in). Below is my Top Ten list for the best jewelry of the evening.

#10: Dianna Agron in Fred Leighton

Even though Dianna Agron’s jewelry was small and delicate, I think her ensemble is a terrific example of how a loud dress can (and should) still be well-accessorized.

#9: Nicole Richie in Neil Lane

Generally women on the red carpet are afraid to wear too many jewels at once, but House of Harlow designer Nicole Richie pulls off the “more is more” jewelry look like no one else can. Last night, she stacked diamond and ruby bracelets up her arm and paired her stack with not one, but two, gorgeous rings on the same hand. One of these rings was her engagement ring, which is one of my all-time favorite celebrity sparklers.

#8: Julianne Moore in Fred Leighton

Julianne Moore makes me wish I was a redhead, because no one looks better in emerald green. These emerald tassel earrings are playful but still fancy, and a perfect accompaniment to her black gown.

#7: Octavia Spencer in Irene Neuwirth

I love how Octavia Spencer paired her lavender and silver gown with rainbow moonstones, especially when diamonds would’ve been a safer choice. These earrings are one of the many examples of how talented designer Irene Neuwirth is.

#6: Debra Messing in Lorraine Schwartz

We love Debra Messing at Charm & Chain. She’s a known lover of statement-making jewelry, and she never fails to impress me with her red carpet jewelry choices. The jewel tones in her earrings go perfectly with her hair and eyes, and the stones remind me of chunks of (gorgeous) candy.

#5: Heidi Klum in Lorraine Schwartz

Heidi serves as the perfect example of how jewelry can transform an outfit—her nude-colored dress isn’t necessarily the most exciting, but her chunky turquoise necklace elevates the look to another (very fashionable) level.

#4: Julianna Margulies

These stunning carved jade earrings are oversized yet still intricate, and the touch of diamond fringe hanging from the bottoms kept the earrings from looking like relics from the Shang Dynasty. I think the purple-and-green color combination will be an important one for Spring 2012.

#3: Charlize Theron in Cartier

I’m generally not fan of sparkly headpieces, but Charlize made me reconsider. I absolutely love her combination of the brooch and the diamond headband—had she worn big earrings or a statement necklace, it would’ve majorly detracted from her gown (which, by the way, was my favorite of the evening).

#2 Kate Beckinsale in Lorraine Schwartz

It takes a confident person to wear over-the-top diamond earrings, and Kate made them look effortless. These earrings are just stunningly gorgeous and exude Hollywood glamour.

#1: Jenna Dewan in Irene Neuwirth

Jenna wore my favorite earrings of the night, which consisted of two magnificent opal slabs, each with its own play of color, surrounded by diamonds. I love Irene Neuwirth’s use of geometry here—the shapes are slightly imperfect, but the earrings look even more magical because of it. As the light hit from different angles, we saw different colors reflected from the earrings—sometimes blue, sometimes purple, and sometimes green. These earrings were beautiful and different—we need more jewelry like this on the red carpet!

Runners up include Frieda Pinto in a Chopard necklace, Kate Winslet in Fred Leighton earrings, and Tilda Swinton in Fred Leighton bracelets. The biggest loser of the evening was Jessica Biel, not because of what she was wearing, but because of what she wasn’t—where was her new engagement ring from Justin Timberlake?
